Food Allergies and Dietary Requirements
Allergy Safety at Mab Lane
The safety and inclusion of children with allergies is extremely important to us.
In line with the Department for Education's statutory Allergy Safety in Schools guidance, Mab Lane has arrangements in place to identify and manage allergies and to respond appropriately in the event of an allergic reaction or anaphylaxis.
Children with allergies will have appropriate information and, where required, an Individual Healthcare Plan in place so that staff understand their individual needs and the action to take in an emergency.
Our staff receive allergy awareness training, including recognising the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction or anaphylaxis and understanding the appropriate emergency response.
Adrenaline Auto-Injectors
Parents and carers of children who have been prescribed an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI), such as an EpiPen, must ensure that the school is provided with their child's prescribed medication in accordance with their healthcare plan.
In addition, Mab Lane holds spare adrenaline auto-injectors for emergency use, in accordance with current statutory guidance.
Spare emergency AAIs do not replace a child's own prescribed medication, and parents and carers remain responsible for ensuring that their child's prescribed medication is provided to school, is in date and is replaced when necessary.
Working Together to Keep Children Safe
Parents and carers must inform us immediately if their child:
is diagnosed with an allergy
is prescribed an adrenaline auto-injector
experiences a new or changed allergic reaction
has any change to their allergy treatment or medication.
Keeping this information up to date helps us ensure that the correct arrangements are in place to keep your child safe throughout the school day, during after-school activities and on educational visits.
Please contact the school office if you need to discuss your child's allergy or medical needs.
Allergies and Dietary Requirements
At Mab Lane Primary School, the health and safety of our children is extremely important to us.
We work closely with our catering provider, Chartwells, to ensure that children's allergies and dietary requirements are appropriately recorded, communicated and catered for.
We ask parents and carers to ensure that the school is provided with accurate and up-to-date information about any allergies or dietary requirements their child may have.
Medical Dietary Requirements and Allergies
If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or other medically diagnosed dietary requirement, it is important that you inform the school as soon as possible.
A Medical Diet Request Form must be completed and returned to school, together with the required medical evidence confirming your child's allergy or medical dietary requirement.
This information enables the school and Chartwells to put the appropriate arrangements in place and, where required, prepare an individual medical diet menu for your child.
While a medical diet menu is being prepared, Chartwells can provide a jacket potato with a suitable topping and fruit for dessert, subject to your child's individual dietary requirements.
Please read the Parent Guidance and complete the relevant forms in the section below
Please return completed documentation to the school office as soon as possible so that the appropriate arrangements can be made.
Religious Dietary Requirements
If your child has a dietary requirement for religious or cultural reasons, you do not need to complete a Medical Diet Request Form.
Please ensure that all relevant dietary requirements are included on your child's admission information and that the school office is informed of any changes.
Keeping Us Updated
It is essential that parents and carers let us know if their child's allergy or dietary needs change at any time.
If you are unsure which information or forms you need to provide, please contact the school office and we will be happy to help.
