Attendance

We know that for children to reach their full potential in school they need to be in as often as possible. At Mab Lane, we are committed to improving attendance, which is why we have lots of incentives for good and improved attendance.

Our School Attendance Target is 97%

School attendance is monitored very closely.  We have an attendance target of 97%.  If your child’s attendance falls below this percentage you will received a letter informing you that your child's attendance has fallen below the required percentage. If attendance falls to 90% or below, you will be invited into school for a meeting with Mrs Rogers. If attendance continues to fall parents may be issued with penalty notice from the Local Authority and potential court proceedings.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU’RE CHILD IS ABSENT:

If your child cannot come to school, you must:

  • Phone the school ASAP, to let us know that your child will be absent by calling 0151 259 4282 or emailing attendance@mablane.co.uk
  • If your child has a medical appointment during the school day you can show us the letter or appointment card or email a photo to attendance@mablane.co.uk
  • If you do not make contact with school on the first day of absence we will make a call to you and may carry out a home visit

TIPS FOR GOOD ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY:

Children should go to bed early enough:

  • Tired children are hard to wake up and find it difficult to learn. Going to bed at a reasonable time makes things easier for them and you.

Be in school regularly and on time:

  • It is settling for children and helps them get into a routine. The more regularly they are in school and on time the more they get used to it.

Get up early :

  • Avoid rushing and feeling stressed. Get up early enough and give yourself enough time to get ready.

Limit TV or game time in the morning:

  • Avoid arguments and lateness by limiting how long they are permitted to watch TV or play games in the morning.

Get things ready the night before:

  • If uniforms, packed lunches, etc. are ready the night before it saves a lot of time in the mornings.

Make time for breakfast – or come to Breakfast Club at school

  • Making time for breakfast can help to keep things calm in the morning and saves time rather than having to stop at the shops on the way to school.
