Maths

This year, as a school, we are working towards the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark. 'The aim of the Quality mark is to tackle the negative attitudes in society towards numeracy and mathematics. We want to promote a culture where people understand the impact good numeracy skills and mathematics qualifications can have on the social, health and employment aspects of their lives. We also aim to support adults in schools to encourage pupils to make connections in their lessons to real life contexts and with other areas of their school experiences.

PARENTS AND CARERS, PLEASE USE THE BOOKLET BELOW FOR:

  1. Supporting your child with homework.
  2. Further challenging your child at home.
  3. Improving attitudes towards maths.
  4. Making connections with maths and the real world.
  5. Useful websites to access maths activities from home.

Maths at Mab Lane

Maths is a vibrant subject which incorporates many skills and we aim to apply these skills and knowledge in many ways. We see maths as an important part of every child’s right to a high quality education and we recognise that Maths is all around us.  Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world.

At Mab Lane, we implement a mathematics curriculum based on the new age related expectations. The content to be taught and how it is assessed are clear. The mathematics curriculum has a high profile in school and is on display in all phases throughout school.

Our maths curriculum is designed to extend and enrich learning to ensure our children have access to the full breadth of mathematical understanding. We aim to develop positive attitudes towards mathematics and give children a sense of achievement and fun. We encourage children to develop a range of strategies for solving mental, written and other mathematical challenges.
