Welcome to Year 5!
This year the people helping us are Mr Scarr, who is our teacher, and Mrs Coleman, who is our LSA.
A very exciting beginning to the Autumn term as the children have many interesting topics to learn. Read below to find out what's in store for year 5 this term. #onlythebest.

I will be updating my twitter page daily with some of the fantastic work year 5 have been producing.
This term, we have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday so please remember to bring PE kits in. We have a lovely new PE kit that is available to purchase in our school office.
Homework is given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. It would be really helpful if you could practice ALL of the times tables at home as well as at school. We will be having lots of times tables challenges throughout the year this year!
In English, we are reading stories by Frank Cottrell Boyce (a significant children's author) and will be exploring the distinctive language features in his books. We will the be creating our own story inspired by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
In Maths, we will be understanding the place value of each digit up to 1 million. The children be able to compare and order numbers, round to the nearest 10,000 and continue to develop counting through negative numbers.
In Science, we will be learning all about our solar system. The children will be able to name describe the features of our planets, explain how planets move, and will investigate night and day in different parts of the Earth.
In History, we will be learning all about the Egyptians. The children will understand what was important to people during ancient Egyptian times, Compare the powers of different Egyptian gods, Find Egypt on a map, Raise questions when confronted with an artefact in order to understand more about this ancient civilisation
PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday every week. Please make sure all PE kits are in school the first week back. New school kits must be worn and can be purchased from the office.
